The vine, like all deciduous plants, has leaves of different colors according to the season, but what causes this change?<\/p>\n
Let’s start from the basics, it is the chlorophyll that gives the green color to the leaves during the summer and spring. Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants, algae and some photosynthetic bacteria, whose main function is to absorb sunlight which is used to produce the energy necessary for the performance of their vital functions. This process is called chlorophyll photosynthesis.<\/p>\n

In addition to chlorophyll, plants also produce other substances, anthocyanins and carotenoids which respectively give the colors red and yellow. These substances are always found within the plant throughout the life cycle but are covered by the green color of chlorophyll for most of the year.<\/p>\n
When autumn arrives, sunlight decreases and chlorophyll reduces its activity, the gradual decrease of this pigment makes the other pigments already present in the leaf plate, anthocyanins and carotenoids visible.<\/p>\n
